- Proper garbage management
If the collection and disposal of garbage in the city is properly executed, it will minimize the garbage disposed in the river. This can be done by emulating other developed cities procedures. (City to city cooperation and exchange of experiences and lessons learned).

- Implement environmental rules and procedures.
Despite the numerous international conventions Kenya is still to develop and adopt this protocols/regulations, NEMA is on the process of developing this regulations. Read more on the NEMA website, URL is on the contacts page.

- Invest in the drainage system
Due to rapid urbanization and lack of maintenance, pressure has mounted on the existing drainage infrastructure e.g. the overflowing or breakage of sewer lines, rust on underground water pipes and pressure on the water treating plant. All this untreated water drain in the river. If technology is applied in both the garbage and drainage system we would have a better city.

- Involve the society
The river belongs to the community and it’s on the best interest to involve the community by educating them on the need to conserve, manage and protect the environment to the best of their ability, for the future generations. |
