Loise Kalekye – Far-right and other NairoBits alumni

Looking back, I would never have thought that I would be the person I am today let alone have the title of a Software Development Specialist…Quite a title I must say. I come from a humble background and growing up came with its fair share of challenges and obstacles.  How was I able to overcome the obstacles and challenges? How did I manage to stay focused and reach where I am today? Well, here’s my story…

My name is Loise Kalekye a Nairobits alumnus. I graduated in 2015. I currently work as a Software Developer at Emomentum Interactive Systems, and IT Solutions Company. My job involves creating cutting edge IT solutions which are adopted by organizations in their day to day procedures. With the advancement and evolution of technology with each passing day, I constantly remind myself of the need to create and learn something new and exciting.

With the knowledge gained from the training I received at Nairobits, I have been able to work on a number of projects that have enhanced my skills and enabled me grow in my career. Some of the projects include: Nairobi City County digital migration for their online process in creating online forms and upgrading and supporting the process at Emomentum interactive systems limited; Worked as part of a team which built an HR app, Task Manager App and Boardroom App-all android mobile applications used by Emomentum internally- the boardroom app is on Google play store and the Governance Risk and compliance system (GRC), a web based application that enables organizations to automate processes surrounding Governance, Risk and Compliance.

Nairobits gave me a chance, equipped me with skills, built my confidence and above all imparted the knowledge I needed to enable me compete in the IT world.

From my experiences this far, I have learned a lot of lessons not just in IT but life as a whole. One of my most valuable lessons was and still remains: Undergoing training in technology is not about sitting behind a computer and writing the neatest or best code, it’s about passion, people and innovation. I have learned that I am my own brand ambassador; I have to put my brand in the market and convince potential buyers that I am worth the shot.

A piece of advice to youth especially a young lady who is afraid to take the first step towards achieving their goals and dreams…Experience is not what happens to you, it’s what you do with what happens to you.

In looking back at where I have come from, I look forward to where I am going because I know that I am destined for greatness thanks to NairoBits!
