Navigation

Introduction

Today, we are tackling navigation. What it means and find out why it is so important. It is actually from Latin word Navigo which means to sail, swim or fly away. This is from whence the English word Navigation is derived.

In lay terms, good navigation is the ability to easily go where you want and still know where you are and ho to get back at any one point. E.g. in a library, if you can easily find any book section andfind your way around with ease then you would consider the bookstore to have a good navigation plan. Usually when you talk about navigation, you talk about logical accessibility.

It is also about reaching the audience. The Sarit Centre is a perfect example in this sense. It has normal stairs, lifts and even a 'flat stairway' so that if for example you have a wheelchair, you can still get around the shops. That is very meticulous navigation system

Presentation and discussion
Here everyone presents their works and we all see if they found the right answers
Trainer : navigation design

A good navigational design will contain
- Minimise travel:
create the simplest and shortest path between any 2 points
- Minimise depth:
Create a Hierarchy with the fewest possible levels(more levels more travel)
- Minimise redundancy:
Avoid creating multiple paths to the same place from the same place from the same screen.
and use this handout
