The trainer will introduce the lesson: Space is all round us, positive and negative space, what does this mean, what has space to do with culture, what has space to do with design ? and how can we orgasnise visual space to communicate on the screen ?

Warming up

Personal space  

Personal Space
This exercise is done with the whole group standing in a circle, taking turns someone wlaks across the circle to another as they approach the one being approached wiats until they feel that the approacher is too close then shouts stop. This gives insight in where you feel your personal space begins and ends. Someone who comes to close is inside your presonal space.

Tip

The trainer can also use newspaper/magazines to convey the message- the organization prints and images to communicate the importance of the message: the balance between image and text

What should appear where depends on what you want to attract the reader's attention to

 
Exercise:
60 mins
Drawing objects in space
Have objects placed somewhere on the table. Provide students with papers and pens and ask them to draw all the objects on papers provided.
The students should be able to critique their own work while others are also encouraged to comment. The focus here is not how well one can draw. The idea is to have every object fitted in the space provided. The other idea is about perspective. Are the objects represented exactly as they appear?
 
Exercise:

Site tour looking for space online
The students tour the web, look for sights that catch their attention, both negatively and positively. They take screendump of four sites which they found using space well or not or interesting way in their eyes

 
Discussion
40 mins
During discussion the class will visit each student's screendump. They will be required to share with the class the impression they have regarding each work with regard to the use of space.
