This lesson is about culture, what is culture and what is our culture, we will discuss and present. The second half of the lesson is about the 6 stages of development in a web project. This will provide the framework for the next website we will make - African Culture .

    Greetings
    To get students moving and interacting with each other in a fun way.
    How:
    Teacher explains the different greetings and elects a leader.
    Greeting 1 is 'Greet a good friend'
    Greeting 2 is 'Greet your mother or father'
    Greeting 3 is 'Greet a stranger'
    Greeting 4 is "Greet your boyfriend or girlfriend'
    Students move up an down and around within the space available and there is one who person leading the game.

    Discuss and present
    Discuss the following 4 issues in groups, each group should choose one member to present results. Each group should have points for and against but should take a group stand point.

    Consider the recent events surrounding the death of Michael Kijana Wamalwa, in fact he had three funerals, his tribes traditional funeral, a state funeral supported by army members and a catholic church funeral. Three cultures incorporated.

    Marriage

    Getting married is a very personal but also a very cultural affair, types of ceremonies, types of partners, age for marrying…
    What rules exist in your tribe regarding marriage, will you adhere to them, will your family feel differently than you regarding marriage attitudes? Can you agree to an inter tribal marriage, will that cause difficulties, give examples ?

    Being a Kenyan
    In groups make a small presentation including the following elements:
    What characteristics do you associate with being Kenyan, mention qualities you consider positive and negative
    Are you as a group / as an individual proud to be Kenyan, why, what are you not proud of?
    What do you think non Kenya people think of when they think about Kenya ?
    What is Kenya famous for ?
    What do Ugandans think of Kenyans ? What Tanzanians think of Kenyans ? Why do they think that ? Is it true ?
    Note some 2 differences between being a Kenyan lady and being a Kenyan man
    Anything else about being a Kenyan that you think should be mentioned here ?

     
    Trainer 5 stages of website development
    Trainer goes the 5 stages of website development through using the handout and giving examples from his/her own experience where possible.
