Chosen game
Web Page sizing
20 mins
Here the trainer explains the correct size for designing a page (for 800x600). He also explains the reason why he chooses this specific size. He shows how to create a new document and how to assign the size or even change the size.
Layers
30 mins
Trainer explains demonstrates the way you can use layers to organise elements. He also shows different layer properties and how they work. This he does by creating a simple button. He even shows how to import images to this same file in a different layer.
Exercise: Using Layers
30 mins
The students should use layers to make simple buttonsWith the skills that they have learnt.
Filters
30 mins
The trainer demonstrates how the different elements of the filter panel work. See or CTR+CLICK flame_effect.doc
Exercise: Using Filters
60 mins

The students can try the exercise on their own and even experiment on the other filters

TIP

Just let them go wild with them for this part!!

Exercise: Designing
240 mins

The students create a 760x450 page and start using different layers for different elements. Adding

Note: This extends to the afternoon.

This is page is actually their design. It should be made clear that this is their neighbourhood design they are beginning. Therefore the colors and elements they use should be thought carefully.

TIP

- Warn them of overusing techniques from a user perspective as well as the balance of design

- Walk around and see what they are doing and try to help but not decide what they make i.e. make them think of what they are doing in relation to what they want to communicate. Just act as a guide or 'concept radar' if you will.

Closing Talk
There will be a discussion about what they have learnt and the trainer could ask questions within the lesson to see if things were clear and if there are any questions.
